Infrared ceiling heater: Space-saving warmth from above
Use the most discreet way to heat your home: An infrared heater on the ceiling is the perfect solution for rooms with limited floor space. Since the heater is "out of the way," your walls remain free for furniture and decoration. At the same time, you benefit from a physical advantage: The heat waves strike the floor directly and warm it as well – for an effect similar to underfloor heating.
Whether as a classic white panel, discreetly integrated into the grid ceiling or as an ingenious combination of light and heating : Discover ceiling heating systems from brands like Elbo Therm or MO-EL now.

Why ceiling mounting is often the best choice
Mounting an infrared heater on the ceiling offers significant advantages over wall installation:
- Space-saving wonder: In small rooms, bathrooms, or offices, wall space is often scarce. The ceiling, on the other hand, is always free.
- Optimal distribution: Since no furniture (sofas, cabinets) can block the radiation area, the infrared waves are distributed completely unhindered in the room.
- Safety: The heater is mounted out of reach of children and pets. Burns from curious hands are impossible.
- Design: White panels on a white ceiling become virtually invisible.
Myth of "Hot Head": Is heat from above unpleasant?
Many customers fear the so-called "toaster effect" or a hot head. This concern is unfounded with modern infrared panels in living areas.
The reason lies in the temperature:
While industrial high-performance radiant heaters become extremely hot, our residential ceiling panels operate at surface temperatures of approximately 85°C to 120°C. At a typical ceiling distance (approximately 2.40m to 3.00m), the heat is distributed gently and evenly across the ceiling. It feels like being in the shade on a summer day – warm, but not harsh.
The underfloor heating effect explained
A physical advantage makes ceiling heating particularly attractive: the infrared rays travel from top to bottom through the air. They only turn into heat when they hit a solid object.
The biggest "obstacle" for the rays is the floor .
The floor absorbs the energy, heats up, and then releases the heat back into the room. This means you get warm feet without having to tear up the floor or install heating pipes.
2-in-1 solutions: Heating with light (LED)
Why install two connections in the ceiling when one is sufficient?
Modern infrared heaters with integrated lighting combine a powerful heating panel with energy-efficient LED lighting (often as a frame or integrated spotlights). This solution is ideal for:
- Bathroom: Replaces the ceiling light and provides warmth in the morning.
- Kitchens: Bright work lighting and pleasant warmth while eating.
- Offices: Perfect light for the desk and warmth that doesn't make you tired.
Safety & Ceiling Mounting
Installation is safe and straightforward thanks to the included mounting brackets.
- Fall protection: Our panels have special safety brackets that make accidental unhooking impossible.
- Electrical connection: Ceiling panels are usually connected directly to the electrical circuit (flush-mounted) to avoid dangling cables to the socket. We recommend installation by a qualified electrician.
- Suspended ceilings: For offices, we offer panels that fit precisely into the standard dimensions of suspended ceilings (grid ceilings). Simply remove the panel, install the heating system.
What power output do I need for the ceiling height?
Since the distance to the body is usually somewhat greater when ceiling mounting than when wall mounting, you should not underestimate the power output.
Rule of thumb for ceiling heating systems:
- Living space / office: approx. 70 - 90 watts per m²
- Bathroom: approx. 100 - 110 watts per m²
Important for rooms with high ceilings: From a ceiling height of 3.00 meters, we recommend more powerful devices or suspending the panels using wire ropes to bring the heat closer to the user.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I install a ceiling heater above the bed?
Technically yes, but many people find direct heat on their face while sleeping unusual. We recommend mounting it above the foot of the bed or in front of the wardrobe in the bedroom.
Is ceiling heating suitable for wooden ceilings?
Yes. Thanks to the insulation on the back, high-quality panels (like those from Elbo Therm) radiate heat almost exclusively forward. The back only gets lukewarm. Follow the installation instructions and maintain the prescribed minimum distance (usually a few centimeters, determined by the mounting brackets).
Can the heater also be mounted on sloping roofs?
Absolutely. Infrared panels are ideal for sloping roofs, as they take up hardly any space and warm the often poorly insulated roof surfaces.
