Bright radiant heaters – Instant heat for open & windy areas
If you're looking for instant heat at the touch of a button, bright infrared heaters (short-wave infrared heaters) are the most powerful choice. Unlike gas heaters or dark radiators, they penetrate the air with almost no loss – perfect for exposed balconies and outdoor dining areas. Discover devices with modern "low glare" technology: maximum heat output with significantly reduced red light emission.

Bright radiators: The power of short-wave infrared (IR-A)
The term "bright radiator" refers to infrared heaters that operate in the short-wave range (IR-A). They are the "sprinters" of radiant heaters: full heat output is available within just one second of being switched on. Because this radiation doesn't heat the air molecules directly, but rather passes through them unimpeded and only generates heat upon contact with solid objects (your skin, clothing, furniture), bright radiators are extremely efficient – especially where other heating systems fail.
Why spotlights are ideal for outdoor use
Do you know that feeling when the sun breaks through the clouds in winter? It instantly becomes warm, even though the air temperature remains the same. Radiant heaters utilize precisely this principle. Since the heat waves cannot be blown away by drafts or wind, they are the only practical solution for:
- Unprotected, windy terraces
- Smoking areas in restaurants
- Balconies without a roof
- Ski lodges and drafty work areas
"Low Glare" and "Gold Tube": Less light, same warmth
Previously, bright spotlights were known for their harsh, deep red light, which bathed the surroundings in an unnatural "red-light atmosphere." However, modern premium devices in our shop utilize low-glare or ultra-low-glare technology (often through high-quality gold tubes). Special coatings and filters reduce the visible light component by up to 80–90% , while maintaining the same high heat output. The result is a subtle, candlelight-like ambiance.
Frequently Asked Questions about Bright Spotlights (FAQ)
Here you will find concise answers to the most important questions about the technology and its application.
What is the difference between bright radiators and dark radiators?
The difference lies in the wavelength and the susceptibility to wind:
Bright infrared heater (shortwave/IR-A): Lights up visibly (orange/red), provide instant heat and are wind-resistant . Ideal for open outdoor areas.
Dark radiators (long wave/IR-C): Do not emit light (black/white), require approximately 15 minutes of warm-up time, and the heat can be dissipated by wind. Ideal for sheltered conservatories or indoor spaces.
Do bright radiant heaters get very hot on the outside?
Yes, the protective grille and the housing can get very hot. Short-wave infrared heaters have an extremely high energy density. Therefore, when installing, be sure to observe the safety distances to flammable materials (awning fabric, wooden beams) specified in the operating instructions. Always install the devices out of reach of children.
How much area does a 2000 watt radiant heater heat?
This depends on the mounting height and the ambient temperature. As a rule of thumb for outdoor use: A powerful 2,000-watt (2 kW) radiant heater effectively covers an area of approximately 10 to 12 square meters . For a large dining table on the patio, one unit is usually sufficient; for an entire restaurant lounge, several units should be positioned so that the heat cones slightly overlap.
Are bright spotlights energy guzzlers?
Relative to their power output, they are very efficient because no heat is lost to the air (unlike gas patio heaters). For example, a 2,000-watt device consumes 2 kWh per hour. At an electricity price of approximately €0.35/kWh, operating costs are about 70 cents per hour . Since the device requires no warm-up time and is often only switched on when needed, the effective operating costs are often lower than those of continuously running heating systems.
