Full control over heat and costs
Many infrared heaters (especially bright ones) come standard with only an on/off switch. This means the device always runs at 100% power. Often, however, this isn't necessary. If you reduce the power to 50% or 75% using a dimmer switch , the following happens:
- Increased comfort: Especially in restaurants or on small balconies, it often gets too hot for guests when the lights are on full blast. Dimmed light (low glare) and gentle warmth are more comfortable.
- Energy efficiency: Lower power consumption directly means lower electricity consumption. A 2,000-watt spotlight dimmed to 50% consumes only about half the energy.
Which power regulator is the right one?
1. Plug-in dimmer (plug and play)
The simplest retrofit solution. The dimmer is simply plugged into the socket like an adapter plug, and the spotlight is connected to it.
Ideal for: Mobile patio heaters and private users.
2. Wireless dimmer Bluetooth (app control)
Here, a receiver is mounted between the power source and the light (often on the wall or ceiling). It is conveniently controlled via remote control or smartphone app (e.g., with Heatlight devices).
Ideal for: Permanently installed wall-mounted radiant heaters , ceiling mounting and the catering industry.
Pro tip: Soft start protects the tube.
High-quality dimmers often feature a so-called soft-start function . When switched on, the heater does not immediately receive the full current, but rather the power increases gently within fractions of a second.
This not only prevents the fuse from tripping in high-performance devices, but also significantly extends the lifespan of the infrared tube (gold tube) by avoiding the "cold shock".
Compatibility note:
Not every dimmer switch is compatible with every spotlight. Pay attention to the dimmer's maximum wattage (e.g., up to 3,000 watts). Infrared panels (dark radiators) often require different dimmer switches than quartz radiators.
